Ikat is a resist dyeing technique where yarn is "tied" and "dyed" prior to dyeing, weaving the fabric. Because design is created in the yarn itself, both sides of the sari are patterned. Pochampally, Odisha, Patan Patola, Sambalpur are major Ikat saree varieties made by Indian handloom weavers.
