Patola Ikat weaving is a complex technique very closely guarded by traditional weaving families originally from Patan, Gujarat. It is a double ikat weave saree. Ikat is a resist dyeing technique where yarn is "tied" and "dyed" prior to dyeing, weaving fabric. Because design is created in yarn itself, both sides of Ikat saris are patterned. Pochampally (Telangana) and Odisha Ikats are two other famous Indian Ikats.
