Ikat is a resist dyeing technique where yarn is "tied" and "dyed" prior to dyeing, weaving the fabric. Because design is created in the yarn itself, both sides of an Ikat saree are patterned. Ikat Cotton saris are popular for comfort and colourful designs. Pochampally, Odisha, Patan Patola, Sambalpur are some of the major Ikat sari varieties made by Indian handloom weavers.
